Dr. Tonya Howe received her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her dissertation, "'A Monster with a Face between His Feet': The Corporeal Culture of Farce in Early Eighteenth-Century Britain," won the Michael Myatt Award in disability studies. She specializes in 18th-century British literary and cultural studies, particularly popular performance art and culture, and she also works in the field of digital humanities. She has taught at the University of Michigan, Washington and Lee, and Marymount University, where she has been since 2006.
